 | Personal Protective Equipment
PPE is the final defense used to give us protection from hazards at work. The best means of protection is the elimination of the hazard through the use of engineering controls. Examples of this include machine enclosures that collect and remove dust before it becomes part of our breathing air and guards that prohibit us from coming in contact with moving machine parts.
Another means of protection is the use of administrative controls. This includes things like job rotation to help minimize exposure by any individual and training to teach us how to minimize a hazard. Ergonomic training is a type of administrative control. By learning how to use our computer workstations properly we can decrease the risk of developing certain repetitive strain injuries. |

Volunteerism
Make a difference in someone's life
Volunteering is fun, rewarding, and a great way to bond with co-workers while supporting your community. Every year, hundreds of Kaiser Permanente physicians and employees volunteer a total of several thousand hours of their time to help make the Greater Sacramento area a safer and healthier place to live. If you have a special skill, free time, or the energy to share, contact Public Affairs at 8-480-4525 or read Monday Bulletin in Lotus Notes for updated information on volunteer opportunities.
Join the Employee Volunteer Program (EVP), which is designed to recognize you for your contributions and provide information about volunteer opportunities.
Volunteers may qualify for grants or drawings and awards as their volunteer hours accrue, and top volunteers receive special recognition for their contributions.
Learn more about EVP by logging onto the Public Affairs web site at kaisersac.com or by calling the EVP Hotline at 8-480-4574. Help make a positive difference in your neighborhood!

 | Stretch Breaks
Get up and take a stretch break! Our bodies are not designed to stay in one position all day long. Taking regular stretch breaks (at least one per hour if possible) to stretch our major muscle groups can help reduce injury, muscular tension and stiffness.

 | Smoke Free Campus
Cleaner, healthier campuses for our employees, members
and visitors
Since February 14, 2007, smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes has not permitted in the buildings or on the grounds of any Kaiser Permanente campus in the Greater Sacramento area. There are no longer any designated smoking areas on Kaiser Permanente property.
As a health care organization, Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing a safe and clean environment for our members, employees and visitors. We care about our members’ and employees’ health. That is why we advise those who smoke to quit and provide assistance through formal programs.
Because our campuses are now smoke-free, anyone who wants to smoke must exit the campus. This means going to a public sidewalk. An alternative option would be to smoke inside your private vehicle.
